Looking for a new way to celebrate the holidays in Toronto this year? Check out some of the most festive events the city has to offer…
It’s that time of year again: the holidays are almost here. This month is all about giving gifts, enjoying good food, and rejoicing in the company of loved ones. To make the most of the season, why not check out some of the fun festivities planned across Toronto? Whether you’re planning a holiday date or a memorable family gathering, here are five places to be merry this December.
1) Holiday Fair in the Square
From December 7th to 23rd, head down to Nathan Phillips Square for a winter event unlike any other. With its incredible selection of vendors, Holiday Fair in the Square is the ideal place to grab the perfect gift. From sustainably-made toques to pleasantly-scented grooming products to chic and funky jewellery, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Once you’re done shopping, warm up with some mini donuts or mulled wine, see a festive (family-friendly) performance, and check out the shimmering lights!
2) Aurora Winter Festival
It doesn’t get more magical than the Aurora Winter Festival, which will be happening at Ontario Place until January 5th. A big part of what attracts visitors to this annual celebration is the whimsical displays. Featuring coloured lights, costumed actors, and elaborate ice sculptures, these fun-filled spaces are a sight to behold. The rides (which include a ferris wheel and tube slide) are also seasonal favourites, as are the frozen pond (for all you skaters out there) and the variety of food trucks.
3) Allen Gardens Winter Flower Show
From December 1st to January 12th, visit Allen Gardens for a plant showcase that’s sure to get you in the holiday spirit. Seeing thousands of plants in bloom—including dozens of varieties of poinsettias—is also bound to provide a wonderful escape from the cold! In addition to the show, attendees will enjoy carolers, carriage rides, warm beverages, and (of course) a plant sale.
4) Christmas Dinner at One King West
There’s nothing quite like a satisfying Christmas dinner. Of course, not everyone has the time to whip up a massive meal. If you fall into this camp, One King West Hotel has you covered. This year, on December 24th or 25th, you and your loved ones can enjoy an incredible three-course meal consisting of everything from pear soup to slow-roasted turkey to perfectly-spiced pumpkin pie. Eggnog is also included, so you might want to consider leaving the car at home (the hotel is just steps away from King Station).
5) Gingerbread Make and Bake
With its collection of buildings from the War of 1812, Fort York is a fascinating attraction for anyone interested in Canadian history. This Christmas, it will also become the perfect place to celebrate the season with the little ones in your life. From December 27th to 31st, kids age 4 and older can learn the basics of baking a beloved holiday treat at the Gingerbread Make and Bake event. The recipe they’ll follow was developed in the 1800s, making this an educational experience as well as a fun one!
